The Mehrangarh fort that towers over the city is perhaps the most majestic of Rajasthan's forts. At the outskirts of Jodhpur is Rohetgarh, the 17th century palace fort, now a hotel, surrounded by villages of craftsmen and Bishnois.
Being the homeplace of many talented and skilled craftsmen, the bazaars of Jodhpur are filled with articles of everyone's taste. Be it antiques, textile, jewelry, furniture or footware, its all there. Jodhpur footware is famous throughout India and are known as morjarais . They come in different colours and designs and are normally handcrafted.
And if you are interested in horse riding, Jodhpur is the place to visit. Not only does the region offer excellent horse safaris but Jodhpur still, probably, has the last of the tailors of the classic Jodhpur breeches. |
